If you are considering abortion, it is important to know that various methods exist for terminating pregnancies. Most Health Boards will require referral from a Sexual Health Clinic prior to receiving their services.
Cardiff Women’s Clinic of London Women’s Clinic continues its legacy with dedication and care for every patient at every time. They remain dedicated to patient wellbeing at all times.
Intrauterine insemination
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is an effective and straightforward way to increase your chance of pregnancy, using processed sperm from either you or a donor directly into the uterus. Timing should coincide with ovulation day for optimal fertility results and may involve being monitored by a physician during this procedure as they check to make sure you ovulated at that specific moment in time, giving hormones which stimulate ovulation to assist.
At IUI, your doctor will insert a soft plastic catheter through your cervix in a process similar to getting a pap smear, before sending sperm swimming up through your fallopian tubes to meet newly released eggs and fertilize them. IUI can be an excellent treatment option for patients suffering from cervical factor infertility or mild male factor infertility and is significantly cheaper than in vitro fertilization (IVF). Our London Women’s Clinic Cardiff branch boasts one of Wales’ highest fertility success rates!
Donor insemination
Women or couples using donated sperm can achieve pregnancy in several ways, including intrauterine insemination (IUI). This procedure may be combined with or without fertility drugs to stimulate female ovulation and egg release; its monthly conception rate averages 10-20 percent – comparable with natural conception rates.
Before initiating donor insemination, women must purchase sperm from a reliable sperm bank and agree to have it tested for HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, rubella and chlamydia. They also undergo a tubal x-ray in order to ensure their fallopian tubes are open.
She must then undergo an IUI (intrauterine insemination) procedure where prepared semen is inserted directly into her uterus after she has identified her ovulation cycle, often shortly thereafter. The procedure is quick, painless, and does not require anaesthesia or hospital admission; any pregnancy resulting from IUI will be treated like any other pregnancy and require regular antenatal care services.
Abortion
Abortion services are readily available to women living in Cardiff and South Wales. To access them, women will need to reach out to either their GP or clinic and complete an assessment by phone to see if they qualify for treatment. Abortions may either be surgical or medical depending on your pregnancy and your personal preference.
Clinic provides safe, confidential abortion services to women who want to terminate pregnancies safely and privately. In addition, post-abortion counselling is also provided at this clinic. Expect some period-like pain and vaginal bleeding following an abortion procedure as well as nausea or sore breasts afterward; these symptoms usually subside quickly.
Anti-abortion protesters in the UK are targeting vulnerable women with hardline religious activists displaying models of foetuses outside clinics to encourage women not to have terminations. This campaign, known as 40 Days for Life, claims to be peaceful yet it is intrinsically intimidating; some responses to consultation on home abortion have highlighted how allowing women to take pills at home increases access to services.
